I picked up a 2005 Civic Type R on Friday, to my amazement when driving home the previous owner has fitted a HID kit, they are truly stunning and I am now sold for life on these.

However, the passenger sidelight is not working so needs to be replaced. A few questions really;

  • The bulb looks very difficult to get out/change as it appears to next under the wing! How do I get at it?
  • I don't know much about HIDs, are the sidelight bulbs themselves specific to the main headlight kit? I need to match the colour I guess, so how?
  • Any other tips?
I'm seriously useless with this stuff. I went to Halfords but they didnt want to know, claiming 24,000 volts run through them and head office wont let them deal with HID bulbs.

Side lights are changed via undoing the arch lining and pulling it back. Reach in and twist the bulb holder and pull it back. Helps to turn the wheel on full lock so the wheel points out the arch.

Why not just get some good led sidelights? They will be a good colour match to the HID colour temperature if you know it? probably a 5000k or 6000k kit

are you talking about the dipped and main beam or specifically the sidelight?

Think the EP3 has 501 wedge sidelights i think?

Ebay also has a load of led sidelights and they are pretty cheap too.

Thanks for your help guys, I'll up some pics to see if you can guide me on colour choice, seems to be a tinge of blue in there.

Sidelights are 501 bulbs or LED's to the same fitment. Seperate to your HID kit.

I've just fitted some Cree 3w 501 LED's to my Fiesta ST and they're absolutely BANG on to my 6000k HID's, pretty much perfect ice white. Cost me a tenner but very good and actually very bright!

Thanks so much for your help guys. I managed to convince Halfords to do it for me. Cost me £18 to replace both including fitting so cant really complain.
