Hi :)

Is there any hidden cores on the AM3 Phenom II X4 955 BE 3.20ghz?
I've got one coming this week and I have an Asus M4A77 board with core unlocker.

Just wondering if there are any :)

Cheers

Don't think there are, only the dual cores did as they were quad core with disabled cores, some were disabled due to faulty cores from what I am lead to believe.

Yeah I herd that too, Was just wondering is all

I know you can buy a 555 dual core and potentialy make it a 955 x4, but i'd rather buy a purpose made CPU rather than a modded one, if you know what I mean lol

The way I see it is that there must be some Thubans that have one duff core. AMD are hardly likely to be throwing them away. So where the heck are those 5 cores going?

What Tetras says makes sense. Perhaps they are going as X4 970's into OEM boards with their typical you can change almost nothing bioses. That's why they are not being discovered yet.

Intel however sold the 386SX that was a 386DX with the co-processor disabled, so Intel started all this first.

My first computer when I was 9 was a 386SX (16MHz processor!) then after about 8 or 9 months I 'upgraded' to my cousins 386DX (33MHz processor!!) when he got a 486DX4 (100MHz IIRC)

You telling me that my first computer was built around a chip that had faulty parts!? I'm going to complain!! LOL

would a AMD Phenom II 545 dual core cpu have hidden cores :)?

I think so, all the PIIs started life as a quad core to be, the ones that failed AMDs tests were deactivated and sold as duals/tri cores.

These "faulty" cores can sometimes be stabilised with some extra juice :)

As demand rose AMD had to deactivate fully functional cores and so some core are unlockable with no extra voltage.

damn AMD producing faulty chips, whats going on??

It makes good business sense to waste as little as possible, all cores sold will be full functional for their purpose.

Duals will have at least 2 good cores
Tris will have at least 3 good cores
etc.

It's also an added bonus for the consumer to get a nice unlocked chip :)
I was was :D when mine unlocked :) it's currently running as a 3.8Ghz quad when I paid for a 3.1Ghz dual...that's an epic win :D
