Hidden & Dangerous. Are there any modern coop equivalents?

Hidden and Dangerous was despite a very buggy engine ahead of its time. The missions had genuine tension and the story arc was excellent with one mission leading to another superbly.

But the best feature of all was the coop support.
H&D 2 didn't feature coop for some bizarre reason despite it being the best feature of the original game.

I've been a little out of touch with PC games lately and was wondering if any game since has been released that was similar in feel, and featuring the coop element that H&D had. I'm not talking online team games, I've played those to death.

I want a game that can be played on a lan in small teams and has an excellent story to drive it on. Ideally WW2 era but not essential.

Any suggestions people? :)

Ghost Recon 2 is the only one I can think of. I've only played the xbox version mind you, but co-op was really fun in it.

To be honest I should have said, are there any realistic tatical shooters that aren't a Tom Clancy game. We've tried those before and found them pretty boring. WW2 setting is ideal.

Failing that are there any mods that add coop to H&D2. I know the campaign has it, my copy is on order.

Brother in Arms: Hells Highway is quite similar to that game.

World War 2 setting, squad commanding with a more FPS element to it.

According to...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hidden_&_Dangerous_2

Unlike its predecessor, Hidden & Dangerous, the game does not feature four player co-operative campaign mode, although player modified maps allow most of the single player levels to be played co-operatively.

and...

Sabre Squadron, an expansion pack released during October 2004, introduced nine new single player levels, eight new multiplayer maps, new weapons, and a co-operative multiplayer mode.

Personally, I think the Ghost Recon series (not GRAW) were superb co-op games.

Alright mate,

Yeah Sabre Squadron is the add-on pack for HAD2 and features Coop. Bit rubbish that you can't do the original campaign as Co-op though. SS is ok
having reinstalled it recently to revisit the magic. I was a little dissapointed by how linear it was (I had forgotten). Still good fun and the graphics aren't that bad considering it's age.

The only other WWII one I can think of is,World at War Effectively COD5.
Though insanely linear there is some fun to had on the hardest setting. I think Had was the daddies, there was the add-on pack for that too which was cool in it's day. I can't believe they didn't add Co-op into HAD2 criminal.

I know your probably only after FPS but if you evr liked the commando series of games, namely 1 and 2, then you must get Soldier: Heroes of World war II.

a really top game with Co-op up to 4 player (i think) you might need to check that. You can pick up weapons etc off fallen enemies, drive tanks even repair them, Half Tracks jeeps etc. Really good fun and cheap as chips now.
Again I played it recently and had some top fun. Nice models and good gameplay. You can direct control the character or just point and click them.
This went down a storm with me and my mates on a LAN. Makes a change from FPS.

I know you said you weren't keen on the Tom Clancy Stuff but Ravenshield offers some top coop. Bit old now but still the best. Amazing weapon selection.

call of duty 5-world at war
you can do nearly every mission in co-op (upto 4 players)
also it has the zombie survival game where 4 players shoot out of windows killing the incoming zombies...oh yeah the zombies do come in aswell.
its great fun tbh

edit...its also ww2

Thanks for that guys. I'll look into those. Also looking about the second Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood appears to have an excellent coop campaign as a tatical shooter. We might try that.

Sadly they dropped coop for the new Hells Highway game. I can't understand why developers do this. I find single player games so tedious and death match is just lazy multiplayer. Games in coop are just much more fun on a small LAN.

World at war is a good game. I'm no COD purist but some people don't rate it. I think it is a top game, the MP is the same as COD 4 really with all your achievements etc. The coop has it's own set of achievements to try and complete. Also the death cards which is a few cheats you can enable once you have completed the game to vary the gameplay. Yeah the zombie mode is top notch.....really good fun. With 4 players you can really have a barrel of laughs.

I've been playing COD5: WaW. It looks great but the gameplay is too arcadey for my tastes. Everythings really frantic and it plays like an action film with no choices to be made, simply follow a set path and kill whatever stands in your way. No stealth or suspense.

I'll investigate the other choices you guys have suggested :)

ARMA or ARMA 2 is definately going to give you choices. it is a fantastic game but be prepared to experience and extremely steep learning curve. It is more of a combat simulator. 1 shot 1 kill type scenario. As with Flashpoint it is the ultimate COOP/MP/Single player. There is also an editor so you can create and script your own missions. There are some HUGE coop maps out on the servers for ARMA. If you are lucky you can get on a decent server with players who are dedicated pilots and deploy you into battle. The amount of vehicles at hand is awesome and the weapon count is also superb.
Downlaod a heap of coop maps and your set for some quality LAN gaming.

There are some WWII mods available for OPF but it is showing its age a little now is OPF. Though the gameplay is still awesome.

Not sure as I haven't looked in a long time but there was a falklands mod coming out for flashpoint. It looked really good.

I'd say Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 is a good tactical shooter and yes COD5 also has a coop mode (which I've yet to get working). Left 4 Dead is very team oriented, but I'm not sure if it is technically a tactical shooter. You basicly keep your friends alive and its an fps...
