Hey all,

I have some folders in the Documents folder in OS X, just wondering if there was a way to hide them so that I can't see them?

I only ask because the "Microsoft User Data" folder is very annoying ;)

Thanks muchos

If it follows normal Unix behaviour, and I figure it will, then prefixing the folder with a full stop (.) will hide it.

Why have you got a Microsoft User Data folder that you need to keep on a Mac machine? Just curious...

Microsoft User Data was present with Outlook Express in classic OS...

Is it there for importing old emails?

Of course... not sure what other MS apps install e.g. Office.

I have Office 2004 and this automatically creates a user data folder when you run it for the first time..

How do you mean prefix?

E.g Would renaming to "Microsoft User Data. " be alright??

Check what files are in it first and make a backup too... just in case!

If it's important, Office 2004 might give you grief if it can't locate it or it just might create a new one instead.

Prefix means before, so it would be ".Microsoft User Data". However, if Office is going to be looking for that folder then changing the name will confuse it and it will probably recreate the folder without the full stop.

I think you're out of luck as long as you have Office on there.

Awww nuts!

I will try the prefix thing, and if that doesn't work I can always look within Office itself;

There's bound to be a way to select the location of the folder..

Thanks for the help :cool:
