High bandwidth VPN's

Hey guys,

So I am looking for a VPN provider to use for both my own computer and xbox 360. The main reason is to prevent DDoS attacks and stop people from sniffing my IP on xbox 360.

The question is are there providers that give enough bandwidth to do this? Or is it not really possible with VPN's?

Thanks :)

Happened a few times, PC security as well. I know you can use connecting sharing with the Xbox to use it through a VPN.

Just need to know if anybody has any idea about high bandwidth providers.

I know there are things you can to do prevent the different types of attacks. But the thing is I only have a basic ISP router which are pretty limited. I was considering buying a Draytek router but if I just use a VPN my IP address would be hidden anyway, preventing any form of attack.

Thanks for the response :)

As far as I can see I have had one serious response so far.

I have asked if anybody has an understanding of high bandwidth VPN's to be used with both a PC and Xbox 360 connection.

If you want to use it with the XBox wouldn't you also need a router that supports VPN's connections and not just VPN passthrough, as the Xbox doesn't have a VPN client (as far as I know)?
It does seem a little overkill imo but its up to you.

Your best bet would be to rent a decent VPS package tho you'd have to setup all the software side of it yourself - lower latency than most public VPNs which are designed more for annoynmous web browsing and usually more bandwidth allowance.

I don't quite see the point tho as once someone started DDOSing that IP you'd have to either swap to another IP or use your ISP direct and if someones determined to DDOS you they will probably find these pretty quick.

I'd say stop being a muppet and ******** people off but then again from my experience of gaming especially games like MW2/3 some people get upset at the stupidest things and I've had one person unleash the LOIC on me due to some completely imagined slight - as I was on a dynamic ISP assigned IP I just reconnected to get a new one and was on my way tho.

Surely if they have the ability to launch a DDoS attack they'll do it to the VPN IP instead?

Would be cheaper for you to just invest in a better router and lock it down as well as possible?

Thanks for the responses. What would I need to do to stop any kind of DDoS attack? Firewall device? New router? Like the Draytek I mentioned.

Does anybody know of any VPN providers that provide enough bandwidth for both Xbox 360 and PC. Ignoring the prevention of DDoS attacks.

Thanks!

Well, if your serious about a VPN then I recommend "StrongVPN".

It's pretty expensive but one of the best.

Not sure just how much speed you can obtain through them but 30Mb is no problem.

Firstly, how much bandwidth do you need? Who is your currently ISP and what speed do you get, and what makes you think you are being DDoS'd??

Just need as close to my connection as possible. ISP is O2 and I get about 12Mbps. I have been told that I am going to get DDoSed just before it happens, contacted ISP while it was happening and checked router log.

You will know if your being DDOS'd proper - ignore router logs as they will "detect" a DOS attack based on fairly benign ICMP abuse - lot of kiddies will do this (its completely not a DOS attack) and then tell you to look at your router logs. You will end up with a fairly unusable connection if DDOS'd properly but disabling ping, etc. in the router can prevent much of it. (If your on a home connection you can just disable ICMP, remote router admin, etc. so there are no listening ports they can abuse - its web servers, etc. that have to respond to an incoming connection that are harder to protect from DOS).

Just find a cheap VPS (heart internet offer 100mb connections/unlimited(ish) bandwidth) and install whatever *nix distro you want then setup OpenVPN (or similar) on it. Job done.
