Hi,
recent new build, i9 13900K, MSI MAG Tomahwk WiFi DDR5, MSI MAG CORELIQUID 360R V2.

running fine for a few weeks now, no temps above 70C under load (I do a lot of Audio).
I updated windows yesterday then noticed the fans were on high. looking at the temps, package temps hitting 100C and all P and e cores as well, was fine previously.

i did notice win search indexer doing its thing causing 100% cpu in task manager, stopping this brought all the temps down to 50-60C, but obviously indexer starts up again and temps go high again.
all temps reported 96-100C when running cinebench and indexer running, but with indexer stopped temps running 60-74C with cinebench.

ive got good airflow, no dust as recent new build. all drivers and firmware up to date.
Installed a contact plate today, thermal paste was in good contact with cooler and CPU previously looking at it.
Im not doing any overclocking.

any ideas on what may be happening, there is no instability when using the computer for audio, no stuttering, etc and no shutting down.
appreciate any help
thanks
tony

ive done that, done a complete virus/malware scan at boot.., now there seems to be a WMI provider host and system hogging things... keeping temps up.
shame I dont have another cooler I could use to see if its that, I know the MSI had a recall, V1 i think, mine is the V2 and checking on their website its not a recall device.
didnt have this problem till the win 11 latest update, can i roll back?
thanks
Tony

@tonymax99 It might not be directly windows 11, it could be linked to nvidia driver, there was a bug with 531.18. So might be worth a check.

Yes can roll back within so many days forgot if its 30 or 10
Assuming it's a build version update
And not just some windows updates instead
Search for recovery options in windows search bar
Should have go back option

If just regular updates
Control panel add/remove/programs and features
Select features/updates on left side to remove

thanks everyone, seems to have settled down, normal temps now, not sure why except for turning off indexing and doing a boot virus scan, found a few files it didnt like but not convinced these were malware, one was UVI workstation....
will try and update nvidia driver as well...

when running cinebench, what temps would you expect to see for multi and single core tests?

yeah everything searches very fast
even with my 9 hard drives it searches them all
yet barely uses any resources

cinebench r23
even though different cpu
for what its worth all core overclock to 4.3ghz on 5950x
max temp is 53c
single core at 5050mhz around 50c

I'm running win 11 Pro with AMD Ryzen 9 5900x. My CPU idle temp is 40C to 50C and under 70C with load. I suggest you to do benchmark you PC. What windows 11 version are you using?

hi, i did a benchmark 26+K multi, latest win 11 build 22H i think it was, im thinking cooler now as soon as i do anything, temps go up to 100C, but idle 50-65.
Its only been since I updatedwin11, never heard the fans come on at all except when room was baking hot, was silent most of the time.

HI, im away from home at the moment, but was thining of trying the thermalrite silent assasin as an alternative when i get home to see if it the AIO that is the problem. IS this ok for the 13900K? gets some good reviews, or should I stick with the arctic AIO cooler?
any other recommendations appreciated.

thanks
Tony

The peerless assassin gets great reviews
Especially for its price
Though a properly functioning 360 AIO
Should still beat it really
But an air cooler has the advantage of no pump
Or issues with build up inside tubes/cold plate
But sheer size and ram clearance can make air cooler
Not fit in every scenario

hi McNumpty2323,
the MSi AIO i have is new, so should not really be having these problems, wanted a cheaper alterantive to see if it is the cooler causing the high temps or something else.. jsut wanted to make sure it was ok.
but if there is a definite AIO or AIR cooler for the 13900K.
the case does have good clearance and airflow, never been problem before the latest win update.

There are an increasing number of things which seem to be busy in the background post recent Windows updates, some of them just until they are done others permanently including various "optimisation" processes, telemetry and the malware protection engine - I think MS is testing some AI features in Windows Defender which can substantially increase overall system activity even when idle :( overall I'm increasingly less and less impressed with Windows 10/11 and I didn't like it to start with.

Yeah would be a coincidence
If the cooler was playing up just at same time
As updating
Running windows 11 in safe mode should terminate
Most background processes
To see what happens
Or run a live Linux usb like Ubuntu
See if you get the same temperature

Sorted, got me an Arctic Freezer II 360 A-RGB, static temps at 35-40, but still high under load (cinebench multi) at mid 90's up to 100C, is this normal. mid 50's in single processor mode.
Must have been a faulty pump on previous cooler (was new so getting a refund), failed at same time as win update, co-incidence?

Have an interesting problem now, all the ARGB fans on the cooler are connected in series, all to pump fan header (and tried CPU,header on motherboard) all to same ARGB header but all bar one of them show different colours compared to my other fans connected. any ideas on this one? MSI board so mystic light being used in rainbow mode, if i set 1 colour they are all the same colour then.

thanks for all the help everyone
