I've been away from gaming for a good year or so and only really used my pc for web browsing until today when i fancied a game of CSS. I started playing and after 10 minutes my system just turned itself off. I thought i had hit the reset button on my case, so i restarted and started playing again. The same thing happened but i was sure that i hadn't hit the reset buttong this time.

I started to look for the problem and realised that my cpu fan wasn't spinning as fast it used to whilst gaming. I messed around with some settings in BIOS and in speedfan and the CPU fan (arctic cooler 7 rev 2) is only running at 1950 RPM at 100%. I was sure that that it used to run much faster than that as i sounds very quiet.

I ran core temp noticed that at idle the cpu temps where ~65C and played css again for 5 minutes to check the cpu temps and load and they instantly rocketed to ~90C at only 60% cpu load.

Its been over 2 years since i last messed about with my pc and i dont really have much time to do so so these days, but is this likely to caused by CPU cooler coming loose from the cpu or could there be another reason for it?

Any help would be great, Thanks.

(Specs are in my sig and im OC'd to 3.8Ghz.)

when did u last clean the inside of your case?
it can get dusty in there, and that is your likely cause.

give all the fans etc... a good clean, look at the cooler, if its clogged up with dust, clean it, a long haired, small paint brush can get into the fins,
may also be worth checking all the cooler pins, to make sure none have come loose.
if this doesn't fix it, then remove cooler, remove old paste, apply new paste and refit cooler.

edit.
my kid has an Antec 900, its a dust magnet, that is the cause

Yeh it is completly rank inside. I'll get a paint brush and some compressed air tomorrow and give it a good clean. I honestly wouldnt have thought that dust would have caused that though. Shall report back tomorrow.
