High CPU Temps due to Faulty PSU?

I was just wondering if my high CPU temps could be due to a faulty PSU? I have recently just bought the following

Asrock m3a770de mobo
amd 1090t cpu
hd 5770 gpu
Artic Cooling freezer 7 pro rev 2 4gb ocz gold 1333mhz
all of which are new but I have a used 700w PSU powering it all.

Just wondering if the PSU is a bit faulty if it could raise my CPU temps as i have reseated my heatsink about 5 times now and now matter how i do it i get the same temp.

Also when playing games like Crysis 2 and Medal of Honor my PC just freezes up and i have to restart using the reset button.

Running prime95 for about 5min my CPUTIN is 70c and each core temp will be about 61c. I don't let it go any higher as i am afraid of doing any damage.

The air flow is fine as i have 4 80mm on the side panel. 120mm at the front and rear and a 140mm on the top.

Any help is greatly appreciate.

Regards,
Ben

What make / model psu are you using?

I would be inclined to get a slightly better cooler, I do like the AC7 but I personally feel it can can struggle with multiple core cpu's.

I used one with my Q6600 & E8600.

But, what is the air flow like through your case and how did you apply the thermal paste and clean the cpu.

Never heard of a PSU giving high CPU temps. It might be causing your crashes due to ripple or something in the voltage. High temps suggest too much CPU vcore or insufficient cooling.

AC7 as much as its cheap and cheerful, i wouldnt slap it on a 1090t. just wouldnt cut it for me .

My Fenrir runs quite well maxing out at 50.c all day long in prime .

(thats me recommending it.. ;) )

To be honest I don't know the make and model of the PSU as when i bought it used off ebay the auction said it was a 650W CIT PSU and when it arrived said 700w on it so i didn't complain just kept it. The air flow should be great I have 1x120mm front intake 4x80mm side intake 1x120mm rear exhaust and 1x140mm top exhaust. The fan on the AC7 blows up into the top exhaust fan. Also have a bottom mounted PSU so the heat from that blows out of the case.

I use isopropyl alcohol with a q-tip to clean the CPU. I applied a very thin layer of TIM to the chip and did my best to make sure it was smooth across the top.

Would i be better using the retail heat sink for now until i can get a fenrir or something a bit better?

As always thanks for the help and comments.

I suppose you could verify that the fan on the Freezer 7 is spinning up properly. It is one of the smaller heatsinks out there but you would expect it to outperform the retail heatsink, although from the pictures on the web the retail sink actually looks half decent.

It look's like the ACF7 just can't cope with your cpu. Take a look at something like the Titan Fenrir or Akasa Venom.

I would also change the psu. Sounds like a cheap and nasty unbranded one and will not come anywhere near the 700w it claims.

Seems the ACF7 has given a few people dodgy temperatures, and there's better budget coolers out there anyway. I got my OCZ Gladiator which has 4 direct touch heatpipes for £12 delivered, and running 3.5Ghz (700Mhz overclock and unlocked L3) my cpu idles at an average of 32 Celcius, and tops out at 50 max.

As above though and Akasa Venom or Fenrir would be good, also a Gelid Tranquillo if you can find one.
