High CPU temps

Hi all,

I've recently built the below:

Gigabyte Aorus B450 Pro
Ryzen 2600 stock cooler
Gigabyte GP-B700H700W PSU
MSI GeForce GTX 1660Ti Gaming X 6144MB
Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-24000C15 3000MHz
WD Blue 3D NAND 500GB 2.5" SATA 6Gbps Solid State Drive
Zalman i3 Edge Midi-Tower Case

I just done a stress test out of interest and noticed my CPU temp running high to the point where I stopped the test after only a few minutes, weirdly if I remove the side off the case, the temps drop to 69c max. Currently idling at 36c. The moment I do the stress test, with the side panel on, the temps rocket to 85c after about a 10 minute stress test. I then get scared and stop the test!

Is this normal? No overclocking all running stock.

Thanks all for your replies.

I checked the temps after an hour of apex legends and the highest the CPU got with the side on was 70c. I remember taking the plastic off the bottom as I stuck my finger on it by accident! :)

To be honest when the setup was complete I was a little surprised at the lack of air rotating within the case, the fans don’t seem to spin particularly fast (fans set to max) and as far as I can tell, the front 3 make next to no difference at all. To be honest I just gathered it was how it was supposed to be.

I checked in bios and they are set to normal, there are 4 settings under “smart fan control”. Normal, silent, manual, full speed.

When I adjust the fan speed on the case, all it seems to do it adjust the lights not the actual rotation of the fans... you don’t suppose I’ve done something wrong?!

I've ordered a few more fans - going to put these in when they arrive tomorrow, and check I haven't plugged something incorrectly meaning the fans aren't working as they are supposed too.

I'll report back - thanks all for your help.
