High Def Camcorder with MBP

I think I am stuck??? I have bough a Sony Camcorder and I am very please with it.. I know I can use iMovie to get the movies off it to my mac as the sony software is not compatible with mac os but what bugs me is I cant get the GPS tracker off it onto my mac as there no software to do it???

Anyone here know anything or got a sony camcorder and how you do this
 
I just use firewire to transfer from [H]DV tapes onto final cut (express) and then usb to get the photos off.
 
Depends on how the camcorder stores your video. If it's a tape based system, then yes a firewire connection should work.

However with more modern consumer camcorders the video is stored to a hard drive. In this case you need to simply plug in the USB connection and transfer the media files over, treating the camcorder as a memory stick or external drive.

However, once the files are copied over you'll need to investigate which codec you need to view/edit them. You might find that you need to shell out for Quicktime Pro, because most camcorders compress the footage using MPEG2, and it's not supported free out the box by Apple.
