I was just wondering if Apus are any good ?
it seams thats the way the market will be moving in the future ?

I had a few questions I wanted to get answered

Can they come close to a high end cpu ?
Can a dedicated graphics card be used with them ??
how good are they at keeping low temps

Can they come close to a high end cpu ? - Not in CPU intensive tasks, no. In GPU operation, they're about the equivalent of a low end GPU

Can a dedicated graphics card be used with them ?? - Yup

how good are they at keeping low temps - If run at stock they're fine.

You need to remember that APUs are a compromise that will suit some. If you can afford a CPU and dedicated GPU for gaming then this would be the combo of choice over an APU.

If budget is a concern then APUs make a lot of sense

Thanks I just wanted to find out seeing as both amd and intel are trying to push more on the APUs.
and the consoles are using APUs

I dont think AMD is even releasing a new cpu this year,
I wonder what a high end cpu would be like.

The APUs are certainly getting there. I don't think they'll ever be as good as a dedicated CPU & GPU but they are certainly worth thinking about if you are on a budget.

"apu's" are a good enough product. the cpu side is good enough and the gpu side is good enough, nether will blow you away but so long as you dont expect the world itll get the job done.

if you want a tower for sub £300 (exc os) thats still capable of playing the latest games on low/medium settings it might be an option, there's better options for £400 though like haswell pentium and a good gpu.

Thats what would the equivalent be in dedicated cpu gpu be compared to a A8 or A10,

is there anything above a A10 yet ?

There isn't really an equivalent. A discrete GPU / CPU combo is going to be better - that's it. But that's the point of them. For the budget conscious an APU is a no-brainer.

If you're in the market for an upgrade decide on a budget then come back and we'll help you out

To my mind the answer to the OPs question, unless so space limited as to have no discrete graphics card option, is no they are not good. Mid-range APUs are cheap and quite good, but the high end ones simply cost too much so you're better with a discrete solution.

Edit: I'd also like to mention that they are better than some discrete solutions - yes, we seldom put the likes of a GT210 in our computers but if we did it'd be a lot worse than an APU. You need to be spending over £50 on a new GPU to beat a decent APU generally.
