High end cpu now or when the new ones come out?

Is it worth buying a good cpu now (i7 930 with good mobo) or waiting till next year when the new cpus come out?

How long until they come out too?
 
I heard somwhere they were coming this year. don't intels next CPU offerings limit the overclocking on them though?

Only the mainstream parts will be here tail end of this year, the new high end socket will not be with us until later next year.

It is not clear yet what the deal is with overclocking the mainstream parts yet.
 
I would wait and ATI 9000 series is coming out as well even if you're not going to buy them I would assume the i7 will drop in price dramatically!

they said that with i7's

and yes they are coming this year, the 2 and 4 cores any way, however seeing as the top end mobile chip is equal to a i7 975, they still aren't anything to laugh at.

I would still wait on the LGA2011 8 cores though :)

I doubt it, even if they did release it purely because they could, it would probably be outpaced in most things by the top end LGA1155 sandy bridge despite having the extra 4 threads
