High end gaming pc help

Watercooling is quite simple really :) It's also quite inexpensive as well when you consider the gains over air cooling. (I'm not WC'ing yet... but by god as soon as I can I will... just cause of the itch!) Read the stickies in the WC'ing section for a basic knowledge then post in the section if you still need help :)

If anyone wants to help further i'd need some advise on a second system. Figured I have the funds and I think I owe my parents something back.

Basically my Dad has an ancient PC at the moment and I don't think it is capable of doing what he needs to for work. I'm not 100% what he does on the computer but he does processor heavy work (data crunching), some basic graphics but nothing intense at all and very casual gaming. I'm talking about half life or facebook games and not often because he's so busy.

Budget for this second system i'm going to throw at around £800
Monitor, keyboard and mouse are already fine for him. Operating system also although if possible a windows 7 copy would be nice.

Thanks again.

Thanks again. I think i'd just get a 60GB SSD instead of 120 GB and then that'd be absolutely fine.

It is kind of saddening reading those specs, then I go look on the apple-store to compare as he likes apple tech and the upgrade from 4gb to 8gb RAM is $200... roughly £133 at current exchange rates. And that's consistent. Shame.

You should take one look at the apple store go "premiums" and resort to the much more sensible option ^.^ 128GB M4's are like £20 more than the 64GB ones.. if I remember correctly.

Old mans build sorted and I think my own now. Having considered parts suggested by both of you, a bit of digging around to find sound cards, headsets and water cooling things to support what I want i've come up with the following AKA a 'I can so i will get it' build.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Asus GeForce GTX 690 4096MB PCI-Express Graphics Card £899.99
1 x Intel Core i7-3930K 3.20GHz (Sandybridge-E) Socket LGA2011 Processor - Retail £449.99

1 x Razer DeathAdder Respawn 3500 DPI Xtreme Precision Gaming Mouse - Retail £49.99
Total : £3,337.88 (includes shipping : £27.55).

I think that water cooling unit suggested it only be used for CPU cooling. I think I decided water cooling after the noctua though, forgot to downgrade the fans to something more basic. Will check out those monitors in a sec.

Thanks for the SSD advice above. Will certainly change that if that is the case!

* Will go with the Benq monitor. Looks the nicest to me and I just dislike dell in general :) Plus 2ms response time is pretty neat.

Dell are actually amazingly brilliant for their monitors I know a few people on the forums swear by their Dell monitors. C'mon if you're gonna watercool do it right! go for the 690 watercooling blocks as well... xD Though I think ASUS doesn't take the card back after you have taken the cooler off whereas Gigabyte do :p

Now you've done it. I'm going to have to get a full on watercooling beast thing now haha. I still like the Benq anyway for the response time and it looks solid also. Having said that i'll do more monitor research, but the ideal is 24" anyway so the top dell is slightly less desirable.

All you need to add to what you have is per 1 component cooled a 120mm RAD (so 1 240mm rad does 2 components) the 690 waterblocks (possibly the backplates as well cause some PCB's are just hideous... especially Gigabyte ones and if you do want to watercool GPU's I would suggest Gigabyte as they do accept the cards so long as you return them with the stock cooler back on) And a few more barbs/compression fittings. :p Probably just drop the premade kit as well :p would make stuff simpler if you need it I could possibly throw together some watercooling gear in a basket... or I know someone who could do it :p

If you could throw some watercooling gear in a basket thats low maintenance that'd be great. Cooling systems I haven't got around to doing any proper research on yet. Let alone water cooling ones. Only thing with WC is i'm afraid the second I have to empty and refill the system i'll 4 letter word it up and pour a pint over all my PC parts or something.

It's quite simple to be honest most coolants only need replacing every 6 months+ for premixed ones Distilled/Deionized water lasts up to 18 months. You use a funnel when you put the water/coolant in :p so it's just a matter of going steady. And I'll get right on it. You just want to cool the CPU + GPU right? Ah there's not any EK 690 blocks about yet or OCuk doesn't have them but you can still setup a CPU loop with the possibility of expanding to the GPU later on.

Well you only need to cool the main components now adays :p since the northbridge is now apart of the CPU ^.^

YOUR BASKET
1 x OcUK Tech Lab - D5 Vario Pump & Alphacool Clear HF D5 Top Value Combo £84.98
1 x EK Supreme HF CPU Waterblock - Nickel Plexi £56.99
1 x EK Dual Bay Spin Reservoir - Acetal £46.99
1 x EK CoolStream Radiator XT 240 (120.2) £38.99
1 x Masterkleer Hose Pack PVC 15,9/11mm (7/16ID) Clear 3.3m £10.88
10 x EK PSC Compression Fitting 7/16 (16/12mm) - G1/4 - Black £3.50 (£35.00)
Total : £285.28 (includes shipping : £9.50).

basically all of this will work together missing cutters, a psu bridge (saves having to turn the PC on to fill/empty the loop) and coolant. Once some 690 blocks appear you would be able to easily incorparate the 690 into the loop with little hassle I would imagine. You might want some rotary compression fittings as well. Or if this is all above your head I would stick to air cooling :)
