Hi everyone. I recently had to downsize my full tower case for various reasons. Mainly due to the wife! I decided to try and squeeze my rig components into a fairly large HTPC case. I chose the Origin AE S16v. Must say its a lovely looking thing. Anyway I was very concerned my GTX 690 would firstly not fit and secondly run way too hot. Well it was a tough build but the 690 just about fit. The HDD rack on the left would not fit on its mount so has been taped to the side. Also the internal blu ray drive was just too long due to the cpu cooler. No big deal as I had an external one. Otherwise everything else fit.
What amazed me most however was the cooling. Currently the system is running slightly cooler than my full tower did! Despite the fact that the new case has only 3 small fans installed compared to the huge array I had installed in the tower. Maybe it has something to do with the all aluminum construction of the new case. Not sure. I'm very happy though as I was convinced I would have to part company with the 690.
Anyway I just thought I would share my experience with you all as it is quite an unusual build. Normally cards like the 690 etc are assosiated with the huge enthusiasts cases. I can testify that you can indeed run a system like this in a different, wife and living room friendly case. I have linked photos of the build to my public dropbox folder. Not sure how to upload photos. Sorry!
