I just bought a cheap Asus IPS monitor and was disappointed with the massive amount of bleed it had... basically everywhere. :(

I'm looking to spend a good bit more this time. I don't really have a specific budget in mind baring crazy prices. What are a few high quality monitors to look at? I know Dell are really well thought of. Is TN the way to go?

I'd like a 24'' panel but not essential.

"Basically everywhere"? Even on the center of the monitor?

Backlight bleed is usually only visible on the edges and corners. Are you sure you're not talking about IPS glow? If it's IPS glow, then when you look at the screen from different angles, the severity of the glow will change. If it's backlight bleed, then the light is visible all the time, no matter which angle you look at it.

In other words, if you can make the "bleed" disappear from even one angle (usually from a straight/perpendicular angle), then it's not backlight bleed.

As for TN (especially anything below £400):
TN will have color inversion, which is usually even worse than IPS glow. VA monitors are from middle ground, and they have off-center gamma shift.

Check this comparison for the apparently best TN on the consumer market:

It came from the corners mainly but it was quite severe when viewed from the optimal viewing angle. Unfortunately I didn't know what I was looking for at the time and it's on it's way back now.

I found the video very interesting. I think I'll have to do some digging.

I bought the Eizo 27 ips 144hz. It arrives Tuesday, I have high hopes for it will take pics so you can see the lack of backlight bleed. some of the photos in the Asus ips thread showing the yellow bleed on that screen are shocking.

lack of new 24 inch screens onto the market, Asus bringing a new 24 inch 144hz tn out sometime this year (it was shown at ces).
