High GPU temp

Hi all. I've got the asus 5850 DirectCU TOP edition. I decided to apply some MX-3 thermal paste, so I can start to overclock my GPU, and keep the temps as low as I could.

Before applying the Paste I havent ran the MSI Kombustor, since applying the past I decided to run Kombustor (Direct x11 stability test) and the temperature is at 66 degrees. I've been running it for 5 minutes and it hasn't climbed (yet).
When idle my card is at 32 degrees.

Does this sound high to you?

I've got the same card as this guy who review it and recorded the temps:

http://www.vortez.co.uk/articles_pages/asus_eah5850_directcu_top2dis1gd5_graphics_card_review,9.html

Now his delta temperature is at 44 degrees, I'm not too sure how to record delta temperature. Is its the different between the idle temperature and the max temperature? In my case this will be 31 degrees.

Thanks.

66 seems about right for air cooling. He probably meant delta = gpu temp - ambient temp.

That is, whatever software reported the temperature as - whatever a thermometer read. Idle temperatures will be a bit above room temperatures, so your load - idle delta, while it can still be called delta, will be a smaller number than a load - room temperature delta.

Delta looks a bit like d, which is short for difference.

Graphics cards seem to run absolutely fine even when very warm indeed, I believe my 8800GT is rated for 95 centigrade. I don't know offhand what a 5850 is intended to tolerate, but I'm confident it's upwards of 80.

I can't however guess whether you've improved temperatures or not by taking the cooler off and remounting. Hopefully it's a bit quieter than it used to be when gaming.

I replaced the thermal paste, as I've review the MX-3 have reduced temps by about 3/4 degrees on GPU's. I really should have taken a before and after stress test on my GPU.

Seems okay so far.

Thanks for your help, you've put my mind to rest.
