High Idle Temps

Ok, so I have optimized defaults running on my Asus ROG Hero, which sets the VCORE to 1.136 for an overclock to 3.9ghz.

I don't believe there's any power saving adaptive voltage whatever set, as the VCORE is at 1.120-1.136 all the time.

However, my idle temps are 40 degrees. I've got an H80i installed at the moment. Each core is actually 48-49 degrees, but the main CPU temp is reported as 40 degrees in Hardware Monitor.

This doesn't change regardless of what my fan speeds are on the H80i (both of them are set to intake, which I believe that's right?). Within seconds my temps jump to 80 degrees on Prime 95, and each individual core reaches 90 degrees or there abouts.

Again, this doesn't change regardless of speeds (low or high).

I've added a screenshot of what it looks like at idle:

Any idea what's going on?

check to see your using balanced power profile in windows power saving options

haswell should still throttle on a fixed cpu voltage

Had no idea that setting actually affected VCORE. Changed that and I have the adaptive voltage back now.

The VCORE is at 0.688 now but its only knocked around 3 degrees off the CPU temp, but it's knocked 8-9 degrees off the core temps.

Is this about right for an h80i or is something amiss? 1.12v surely shouldn't cause core temps to reach 90 degrees immediately in Prime 95?

I don't know with that cooler:confused:,haswell is hot anyway

what paste did you use? tried fans other way round? to see whats best
