I am looking at picking up a cheap commuter bike and have found a nice fazer 600 with full service history that I like the look of. The mileage is around 40k which is putting me off a little. Should I be concerned or will this be fine as long as the full service history is correct and the bike looks good and well cared for?

Bike is 1998 so pretty old. It has new tyres..chain/sprockets and is up for £1300. Is this too pricey?

I am after a cheap commuter and nothing fancy as it is my first bike. I won't be doing loads of miles just a little commuting and general use really.

Is it this one by any chance? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-FZS600-Fazer-FZS-600-Fazer-Full-Service-History-UK-Delivery-/121719298456?hash=item1c57091998

Looks OK, looks like it's been down the road once on each side judging by the scrapes on the engine casing and mismatched indicators front to rear. As Wazza says, at this sort of price, buy on condition. Try to seek out a private sale bargain too - the dealer will be making a couple of hundred quid on that bike, private that would be a grand.

That's the one. I thought it would be a good starter bike to learn on. I understand that private would be cheaper. The price is what these fazers seem to be going for. They appear to hold their value quit well. My budget is around the £1500 mark.

I am in no real rush to pick up a bike, I just want to get a good one. Is it a myth that during the winter a bargain can be had?
