High Mileage

These VW engines are a bag of problems once they get to a high miliage tbh
Gotta agree with this. They worry me at low mileage tbh with lots of reports of excessive oil consumption being the most worrisome. Coil packs and diverter valves have been regularly dying on all VAG cars for the last 20 years+, but the benefit is that they are cheap to replace, and easy to swap out so not a massive issue. It's the carbon build up and crazy oil consumption on some engines which really keep me away from a lot of VW 2.0T cars.

If it was a high mileage 2006 onwards BMW (N47 aside), Merc or VAG diesel though - I'd have no issues getting one as they're mostly all solid engines and bodies.
