As per title, my mobo temps are quite high, and I was wondering how much they should max be... Are these temps worrying ? It just seems odd to be that the mobo is hotter on idle than the cpu...

Idle ( well not completely idle, 10-15% cpu usage time with wmp playing and lots of browser things open):

Load ( during intel burntest after about 10 burns):

Seen my mobo temp reach 59C at the end of it actually ( after 20 burns).

So, should I be worried and replace the asus poo with AS5? Or is it fine as it is ?

It might be sensor placement, thats certainly the issue in p6t boards.

The sensor being around the gfx exhaust area, run ati tool or some gfx intensive test that doesn't test the cpu/memory at all, and see if it ramps up the mobo temperature more.

Good way to compare where that heat is actually coming from.

Burntest doesn't stress the gfx, only the cpu, chipset and ram...

The heat IS at the northbridge, I can burn my finger by touching the heatsink.

It'd be a hassle to repalce my mobo coolering altogether, it's heatpipe so it's linked to a few fins between the backplate and cpu area.
What I'm asking though is are these temps ok and what's the max a nb should be?

What optional northbridge fan btw ?

I think he's referring to how some motherboard get an extra fan for chipset/MOSFET cooling that is optional, although I think they came in after the P5B series.

As it is all heat-pipe based replacing would be a hassle, like you said, so any fan aimed at t should do the trick.
