Hi guys...

Ive just built up my new pc. Everything is fine, apart from the NB temps. Im seeing high 60s in OS, and 80 gaming.
Asus default alarm temp is 90, but that seems really high.
MB temp is low 40s, SB temp is low 50s. CPU temp is low 20s

Brief system spec is...

Asus Rampage Forumla x48
Q9550
4870 X2
4870 1GB

Card temps are high 40s idle. X2 is primary game card, which hits about 70 in games.
Case is Infiniti Zor, 5 Sharkoon 120mm 2k rpm fans, 2 intake on front, 2 exhaust on top, 1 exhaust at back. Im gonna swap the top fans to intake, but dont think its gonna help much.

After some advice really. Im not really comfortable with temps this high. Ive read they run hot, but cant see this is normal.

Cheers

Actually, swapping the top fans to intake will probably make things worse as you will only have a single exhaust then. Better off leaving it as is. Are you reading the temps with the Awful Asus software? It's probably wrong but those temps are not that bad really. If you are really concerned try pointing a fan at it. That should cool it down a bit.

Yeah just with PC Probe.
I only started installing the OS yest, so not had time to try much. Airflow doesnt seem too bad in the case, i mean the CPU temp is pretty low. The cards arent bad, ive not messed with the fan fix yet.
Just the board temps, mainly NB. But the board has no fans, just heatsinks.
And the X2 sits right by the NB which probably doesnt help :)

Im just more worried its gonna do damage. But if its not that bad maybe im just paniking.
My last rig was W/C and pretty cool. No temps ever saw anywhere near 80. So its just a bit new to me i guess :)
Ive looked at other threads, and forums, most seem to be high 50s.

Cheers

I used to have a Gigabyte 965P DS3P that would burn your finger if you touched the NB heatsink. I would get something like an Antec spot cool or a Zalman fan bracket with a 92/120mm fan on it to blow air across it.

Ive only trie Asus stuff. Ill try HWMonitor tonight.

Not sure ive got enough room room to fit another fan for it. Ill have a look, but theres very little gap between the NB and the X2 card. The lower intake fan come in right across the cards, but obviously not much air is getting to the NB

Cheers

Try using everest to monitor the voltages and temps.

These boards overvolt so i would set your voltages in the bios rather than leave them all on auto.

Also make sure you have good airflow in your case (tidy the cables) as the board is passively cooled.

I have more or less the same setup in an antec 900 case , over clocked to 3.6Ghz and NB temps are 39 idle and around 50 full load.

here is a screenie of settings that may help you ;)

The boards also run quite hot on the NB as well and a fan or some decent airflow across the NB heatsink is usually needed - i personally use a Artic Freezer 7 fan on my NB - sits quite nicely on there and can speed control it with speedfan!!

I have a similar problem. My NB peaks at about 58-63C according to Asus Probe with the Rampage. Had it had 70C+ but decided to lower the voltage and CPU overclock. Have a Cosmos S case, so added an extra intake and outake fan. This lowered temps a few degrees. Would get a spot fan. But not sure where to focus it on? There might not even be room combined with my 4870X2 and tuniq tower!

Right, a little update.

But first some clarification...

In HWMonitor, im looking at Temperatures - Remote 1, Local and Remote 2. Im asuming Remote 2 is the NB, as its the higest temp, and corresponds to what PC Probe says.
Could anyone run through what each label actually means. Ive not been able to find anything . The CPUTIN is half the temp of the actual cores etc.

Anyway. Ive put another 120mm fan on the bottom drive cage. So its inbetween the 2 inlet fans and the back of the cards. Its helping, OS temps down to low 60s Games low 70s.
All cables are very tidy, i think its just the 2 huge Gpx cards blocking a lot of the airflow to the NB.

Ill keep fiddleing, see what i can get it down to.

Thx for all the help
