I am building a pc which will be used for cad, adobe creative suit, 3d studio max, arhcitectural visulisation software which is high demanding. Fast rendering is a must. Please have a look at the spec any comments would be appreciated. Spend - £2000 . Any tips, upgrades, downgrades, info welcomed.

The reasoning behind the expensive Quadro FX 1800 is primarily for rendering in architectural visualisation software. As an active member of the RIBA it is important for our practice to complete projects in the fastest possible times. This being, rendering quickly, not waiting for systems to respond. Can i reiterate any CONSTRUCTIVE comments would be appreciated.

I was considering the Quadro fx 1800 over a more gaming orientated graphics card.

If you have ~£400 to spend on a graphics card that will be used for CAD, I would suggest having a look at the Nvidia Quadro 2000. This is a pretty new quadro card based on the GTS 450 core.

If i'm not mistaken, the FX 1800 is based on the much older 9600GT, so a the Quadro 2000 should offer you more performance for about the same money.

The rest of the system looks very good, however I would suggest going for this cooler and low profile RAM instead - due to better cooling and lower noise.

In terms of the SSD, the Crucial C400 is nice, but personally I would put my money on an OCZ Vertex 3.

The H60 is fine for 4.5GHz (or even 5 GHz), in fact any competent cooler will do for low-medium overclock. But yeah, the SilverArrow is pretty much the best you can get with low noise, however like its counterparts (NH-D14, Megahalem, Venomous X, Archon), it's HUGE.

The upshot of air coolers is their simplicity, less things to go wrong, and they can provide some form of passive cooling as well (fan failure, however unlikely). You do need to check if they will fit the case though.

As with coolers, the margins between a Vertex 3 abd a C400 are small. Another word on reliability, Intels lead the way.
