High performance graphics cards that are 290 mm long (or less)

I have a Zalman Z11 Plus case, which despite looking fairly big on the outside, it's a bit cramped on the inside and only supports graphics cards 290 mm in length.

I'm due for an upgrade from my Asus STRIX GTX 970, but looks like I'm going to have to look up the length of every card from every manufacturer separately to make sure they fit.

So far I've seen the MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Ti ARMOR 11G OC is 290 mm exactly, and the MSI GeForce GTX 1080/1070 Ti Gaming 8G is 279 mm.

Just wondering if anyone knows if this size restriction rules out any upgrades for me in the 2xxx series or with high end AMD cards (which last I heard were massive)?

I take it I can certainly rule out triple fan designs. I'm not keen on blowers as I prefer to keep noise to a minimum, and I hear blowers are louder (please correct me if I'm wrong). It seems the only MSI 2070 that's <290 mm is a blower design, which I wouldn't be keen on (I'm assuming that MSI offers the smallest models in general...)

All the Founders edition 2K series are smaller than my old MSI 1070 OC Armors. In general the more expensive the 3rd party design cards are, the larger the heat sinks as uprated cooling is one of the things you're paying for with a 3rd party card. The 2080Ti FE for instance is 267mm long.

Maybe this 3rd party 1080Ti..

The EVGA XC & XC Ultra 2080Ti’s are under 270mm I believe. That’s why I was waiting for one.

No longer need a short card so have ordered something available instead.

Ah okay, looks like I can't rule out any of the nVidia offerings on graphics card size alone. Also seen a Sapphire Vega 56 dual fan design at 282 mm, so seems there are options from team red too. Cheers all.

Reference Vega 64 and the Nitro without the backplate are 290mm

Had a similar issue as you as I could only get a card 290mm long. From reviews I would avoid the 1080ti armor as the cooling is right on the limit so will be loud, I ended up going for a AIO cooled reference design but at idle its noisier than an air cooled card.

If you are looking at nvidia and around the 1080ti level performance the best air cooled cards I could find were the palit jetstream, they are 3 slots wide so shorter and arguably one of the best cooled cards but very expensive. Too expensive imo for a card that has been out so long.

Have you considered the GTX1080TI miTX?

Cheers for the heads up Finners - quiet cards are a priority for me. My STRIX 970 is as quiet as can be (fans off at idle too), and I'd like to keep it that way.

Have you considered the GTX1080TI miTX?

I'm early on in my considering phase, not even sure what to aim for out of the 1070 Ti, 1080, 1080 Ti, 2070, going AMD, or just waiting it out. Personally I assumed mITX cards would be hot and noisy, and possibly perform worse and not hold their value compared with the non-mITX versions. I'd be keen to know if this isn't the case.

No, that’s pretty much on the money. :D

looking at the case its not just the size you need to consider, you will need to consider the placements of the 6/8 pins..

i have a gtx 660, not a big card and was within the limits of the aerocool cs 102 case i had it in which is much smaller than yours, however the 6 pin is on top and the cable had to be wedged under the drive bay cage so in your case it looks like you would need the power ports on the top, which im sure is normal nowadays, but it would depend on the brand.

True. I checked the MSI 1080/1080Tis and they have the power connectors on the top, as does my current 970. I'd be stuffed if these cards have the power pins sticking out the end.
