Hi

Hoping someone can help. I play this game quite a lot and usually have a ping of 30. My brother plays a variety of games online and we normally play at the same time without issue.

He has just got a new PC and we have been trying to play CS:GO games together, but whenever we both join the ping skyrockets (500), sometimes it calms for a bit but then goes straight back up. He can go and play another game online and I can play CS:GO by myself with no issue so I don't think it's a bandwidth problem.

Could there be some sort of conflict?

We also had a problem when setting up the PC whereby his new machine was very fussy about the WiFi channel (fitted an Asus PCE-N15 network card) - it wouldn't even see the wireless network on some channels, and on others the connection speed was unusable. We now have it on channel 9 and seems to be ok for everyone at the moment...

Any help much appreciated ! (driving me mad)

Nope not in GO it's everything's default.

Due to the layout of the house not sure wired is an option but think i'll need to get some long wires to try it as a diagnostic check...I have a feeling it's going to be fine when wired :(

Probably due to port opening on the router.

In older versions of CS there was a command to change the default client port on one or both of the machines away from the default with +clientport 270XX as a startup parameter where XX is a number above the default - I seem to recall there are some other services that also use that range so probably worth researching to avoid other conflicts.

EDIT: The official FAQ https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=6370-QPHJ-3567 not sure if it applies to CSGO though or not.

Great thanks for this, will give this a try first.

Out of interest whats your router and what connection speed / ping's do you have?

Router is a TL-WR1043ND - not had it long (a few months) but not particularly impressed. Bought to replace the generic sky router but the signal is no better and all wi-fi devices drop connection every so often , although seems to have improved in the last few weeks hasn't done it in a while. I'm on Sky (not fibre) get around 14Mbps d/l and 1Mbps u/l.
