High Pings- Would Static IP help?

Hi, been having probs lately with my gaming pings spiking a lot. Going from mid 40`s up to 150`s. I`m with Tiscali on 2MB service. In past month I`ve moved house and in doing so have upgraded from 1MB service & got myself a Belkin high spped modem/router so that wife can email on other computer. Though I hard wired modem to my PC to lessen impact on gaming. High pings happen regardless of the other computer being on. Could be ISP, I suppose, but I`m literally a stone`s throw from exchange & speed tests come up good. So i`m looking at other possibilites. Read somewhere anout switching from dynamic IP assignment to static one. Will this give me any advantages/improvements? What does everyone think?

no advantage at all, wouldn't make a blind bit of difference

also, speed/distance from exchange etc has no bearing on response time any more really. Depends on how your ISP contends their core, what peering they have, where your connecting to. But it's perfectly possible to have 24mb adsl 2+ and get a worse ping than 512k basic adsl.

Changing to a static IP (which isn't possible on Tiscali's consumer products anyway) won't make any difference at all.

It's likely to be Tiscali that's the problem - they're not exactly the best ISP around.

Ok. Have known about Tiscali`s bad rep but to be fair they haven`t been too bad in past. Few times where I was tempted to seek better elsewhere but really big price difference & then there is the whole hassle of moving!! So not much I can do to eliminate ping spikes then... thanks anyway.
