High pitch noise coming from the Psu

Having just upgraded to a Corsair Tx 650, and plugging it in with the following specs :

Asus P5n-t Deluxe
Q6600 G0 @ 3ghz (333 x 9, 1.3v)
2 x 7200 sata hd
1 x Sata Dvd writer
2 x 8800 gtx in sli
5 12cm Case fans
1 x Creative X-fi Music sound card

I turn on the machine in order to boot windows, then once the mouse appears on the screen, and I move it, even a tad little movement, results in the Psu pushing out a very high pitch sound, like electrical interference. The kind of sound you would get from turning on one of the ageing old Crt tv's.

Using Youtube, I did a comparisent using my sound and the so called Whining sound, as several articles I read suggested it could be this I'm hearing.. But the sound I hear is completely different as I don't get an up and down sound, but a really high pitch sine sound. I took out one of the 8800gtx cards to find the noise was less apparent, however it was still there.

After searching through the net for people who have experienced a similar issue to mine I found that enabling the Spread Spectrum feature within the Bios may help. Following that, I turned it on to find the sound that I heard while moving the mouse has disappeared.

But at the back of my mind something has been bugging me..

I've read that overclocking while using Spread Spectrum is not advised as it can spike my clocks and cause lockups..

I can still hear a slight electrical sound coming from the Psu when the Cpu is under load, and it's still annoying to have it present.

This is a brand new Psu I'm talking about. Should I Rma it?

Thanks for your advise.

Have you tried a different mouse to see if it replicates the same whine?

If you have and it does you need to try different combinations of connections etc and reseating core components and making sure that all connections are secure and tight. (You could also try disconnecting non-core components and see if you can eliminate/reduce the whine intensity.)

Trouble is that even if you've tried all this and get the same result it's still reaks of an interference problem - and, thus, essentially the psu is doing its job making an rma slightly harder to justify - although i would as it would irritate the hell out of me.

If possible it would be a good idea to stick it into another rig to see if it does the same thing. If it did then the rma would be very justified and your almost guaranteed to get a replacemnet.

Ring the place where you got it from and explain your problem and the trouble shooting methods you've applied - you should be able to judge how agreeable they would be towards an exchange.

I have the Zalman ZM850-HP 850W PSU which I've recently purchased for the new build in my sig and it makes exactly the same noise as you're describing. It's quiet most of the time, but it'll pipe-up when I move the mouse or if I really tax the SSDs; I seem to remember my old GlobalWin PSU doing it too.

Still, it's not noticable with the case on so I'm not letting it bother me.
