High pitched noise and Graphics Corruption from new board.

Hi guys

Picked up a new MB last week (z77x-s3h) and when using the Intel GPU via the DVI connector there is what I think is cap noise. It's a high pitched squeak that starts and stops as the cable is removed/inserted.

Last night when watching a video the screen froze and I got dreaded blue bars cutting across horizontally.

Never had this on a motherboard before. If it does turn out to be a dieing cap is this likely to degrade further?

Basically is it RMA time.?

you hear the noise all the time? or just when you connect/disconnect the dvi cable? after no sound is heard?

if its locking up while watching a video using onboard graphics its probably memory related as in bios settings or intel graphic driver issue

This is an example of the image corruption.

So far I have.

Removed all case panels.
Moved fans about to expose RAM better.
Updated graphics drivers.
Swapped video codecs.
Swapped out memory.

Now it's no longer giving me the blue lines but it still freezes.

It's either the brand new MB or the brand new CPU.

it cam loaded with f16. f17 is at beta stage with what looks like only changes to secure boot.

if its a gigabyte board you can flash back to prev bios if the beta isn't any better, they don't include all the fixes

if its randomly freezing try setting bclk to 100, pwm phase control to extreme performance and vcore voltage response to fast in the bios

Ok look like the noise was interference from the power socket. The socket is directly above the power feed into the property.

The crashing looks to have been sorted by a combination of drivers and bad bios settings not auto detecting RAM profile properly.

All is good again :)
