I'm currently running Prime95 torture test and it's been on 3 to 4 hours without problem so far, left it running whilst doing chores.

However, I've noticed that now and then my system emits a high pitched squealing when running this test. It also does a similar high-pitched hissing noise when playing games, but I think this is coming from my X1800XT as I've reported elsewhere.

Can anyone tell me if this is normal?

I'm running an E6300 @ 2.8ghz 7x400, 1:1 memory 4-4-4-12 DDR-800 @ 2.00x and only the memory voltage increased +0.3v to bring it in line with Geils recommended volts.

cheers

One of the fans in your system is probably kicking into higher gear.

No, it's not that - its like it's instant on and off when it's doing certain iterations - it lasts for a certain length of time then goes off again. Its definietly an electronic squealing as opposed to a fan squeeking or pushing more air.

I used to get that with a P4C800 & OC'd prescott, really loud,

it didnt do it with any northwoods or dothan in that board so i assume it must have been the power draw from the prescott...

needless to say the prescott lasted about 20mins before it was sold in the fear of setting my board on fire :p

Coil resonation/hum, happens with a lot of boards under load, no biggie.

DUHHHHH, thats way to technical,

its all the little hamsters running around on their wheels inside your pc.

Sometimes their wheels need an oiling, hence the squeeling.

Fancy not knowing that blimey.

LOL :p as he said coil resonation/hum, not a lot to worry about.
