High pitched Squeel from PSU means...?

Was just replacing my old PSu with a new one, connected everything up, and turned it on and instantly the thing starts putting out this high pitched tone, really loud. I've got no idea why its doing it as i'm almost 100% sure ive connected everything that had power connectors before.

The only thing i can think of is that this new PSU has plugs for all the diferent connectors, and some i havent used because i didnt need the leads, do i have to actually plug all the leads in even though i have no use for them? Maybe thats it.

Help? :)
 
Dunno the reason for the noise but if it's a modular PSU you don't need to have all the cables connected, would kind of defeat the purpose I suppose if you did :p

Does the PSU power everything up fine?

When it started making that noise i just powered it down, didnt wait to see if it booted or not, i'd rather not power it up again untill i know what the noise is for.
 
Yeah, the loudness of it totally freaked me out...

Anyway, at least this thread can help people if they bother to use the search function.... and they can't spell squeal properly :P
 
Has the problem subsided now that all is plugged in? I noticed a very subtle high pitched squeal from mine as soon as the power plug is put in and the power switched on. It's from a new PSU as well :(
 
Nah mate, this was a totally earsplitting pants browning noise, it litterally filled the house and someone heard it downstairs through 2 closed doors :D
I reckon your problem might be the fans spinning up if your hearing it only on switch on. People with decent hearing can sometimes just hear a pitch from a lot of electrical stuff, my laptop drives me crazy with its faint whine.

Hmm..I the thing is it is audible (on mine), I know my hearing is terrible after a few years out in the clubs ;)
 
happened to me too once back in day .... when i had limited to no technicial knowledge. got a 6800 ultra and my psu wasnt beefy enough to run it. known what it was from then on.
