when my CPU is OC there's a whinny sort of screeching noise that comes from the back of the cpu socket. if i put prime95 on the noise is constant. this normal you think??

CPU: i7 920 @ 3.8
MB: G1 sniper

its the power saving states that make the noise,it intereferes with your psu, either switch to another make of psu or try disabling c1e, or eist or c3/c6 states in advanced cpu features in the bios and use balanced power profile in win7 power saving

what make/model psu you using?

the noise is getting worse now. its constant when playing the likes of BF3, BC2.

why do you think its started making noises in places it never used to?

Make sure you have not developed an overheat or a fan not working. Your board could have a built in alarm that will cause this type of noise.Check you bios for enabled alarms and find a program that will monitor your CPU heat when playing games or stressing it.

I dont think it is anything to worry about, it is usually the noise from the ferrite coils near the VR's they sometimes whine at certain loads and frequncies.

My old motherboard did it and it is still going after 6 years
