Windows XP's boot screen is very old isn't it?

Any apps out there that force a higher quality (res, bit rate) ?

You can change the boot screen manually by editing the ntoskernal.exe using Reshacker. Youo'll also need to get a colour palette to be able to see and modify the image as currently it should only appear black.

Alternatively you could just download a program called bootskin which will do it automatically.

As far as I'm aware you won't be able to use a different colour palette unless you can find where windows hides the one it uses. With regards to changing the resolution, I've never tried to do it so am not sure if it's wise or even possible.
