High RAM latency - Threadripper

Hi, I have a new build with a 1950X Threadripper, X399 Gigabyte Designaire Mobo and G.Skill Trident Z RGB 32GB (4 x 8GB) PC4-25600 - F4-3200C14Q-32GTZRX - the RAM is certified for the mobo and the CPU.

Everything seems fine with performance but I noticed that Passmark RAM benchmark puts the latency at 70ns in UMA (distributed mode) and 52ns in NUMA (local mode) - NUMA/UMA modes set in the Ryzen Master software. These figures look much too high for the RAM.

In the BIOS (latest version) I have activated XMP profiles and the RAM runs at correct timings 14,14,14,34 and at 3200MHz. This is also shown in Windows.

Is all of this normal given the TR 2 Die setup? NUMA mode is quicker and that makes sense. But it still seems too slow.

Any ideas?

Sure. The second GPU was a little overkill tbh...

In answer to your questions 1) I'm quite happy with the Enermax cooler, temperatures are kept around 36C usually (but it's quite warm in our house always!) and I don't think I've ever seen over 64C during heavy benchmarking. I did change the fans for Noctua NF-F12 Chromax fans. But the original fans were just fine. I decided to go for that cooler because of the complete coverage of the CPU and good reviews. 2) There have only been two BIOS updates for the Gigabyte mobo since it was released - the last update was October last year. I have had zero stability issues with this board (except for the first board which lasted 3 days then wouldn't boot - bad luck I guess). They use really high quality components on the board which is good. I don't know enough about Asus to compare. 3) I haven't attempted to OC the RAM or anything else. It has so much power I just don't see the need and I'm not into maxing stuff out. I bought expensive RAM to avoid issues and make sure it can run at 3200MHz out of the box. 4) I haven't attempted to OC the CPU. I use the PC for work mostly and run lots of VMs which is why I like the 32 threads and 32GB is enough for the number of VMs I need.

I spent ages looking for the best way to put thermal paste on the TR and some extensive testing showed that you should cover the 'Z' on the CPU.
