Looking to ugprade my Dell U3415W for something with a higher refresh rate, budget wise looking at ~£500 max, and not interested in dropping resolution:

So far the following options seem the most suitable:

AOC CU34G2: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/aoc-...een-led-backlit-gaming-monitor-mo-05a-ao.html
AOC CU34G2x: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/aoc-...een-led-backlit-gaming-monitor-mo-059-ao.html
MSI OPTIX MAG341CQ: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/msi-...rved-widescreen-gaming-monitor-mo-00d-ms.html

So any recommendations of the above?

Is the extra 144Hz of the "X" model of the AOC worth the extra £80 (e.g. is it noticeable)?
Why is the MSI £90 more than the AOC when spec wise they seem almost identical - is this just a brand thing or are there tangible improvements?

Anything to look out for with either of these, or any other options I should consider?

Anything I'm going to miss coming from the Dell?

Thanks! :)

It is not just extra 44hz (noticeable, not huge)
144Hz panel is likely faster across the board
MSI and AOC is similar spec because they are based on the same panel. Some brand, some small details like stand

Note that these are all VA panels. You are coming from IPS, probably used to its flaws. VA will have their own, mainly black smear on moving images.

I think people are missing that your current monitor is a Dell Ultrasharp - i.e. a monitor designed for top-notch visual quality. I think you might find the image on a gaming monitor not as good outside games.

To be honest probably 90% of my usage is gaming anyway, I occasionally work from home, but it's dev & office type stuff, so I don't exactly need perfect reproduction e.g. for graphical & design work. From what I understand, VA will give me better blacks & contrast, but I'll lose the vivid colours & gain some smearing? (and obviously better refresh rate)

Will you be running both monitors? You could get a vertical monitor mount and stack one above the other and have one for gaming and one for work.

Was going to just have the one, don't really have space for both unfortunately!

Save a little more money and get an IPS 144Hz monitor like this one for example.

That would be ideal if it had a bit of a curve to it, but at that size I don't think a flat panel would be great and the IPS glow would be very visible (it already irritates me in dark scenes on the current monitor!).

Unfortunately the only option that ticks all the boxes is this LG:

But is way over budget :p

I'm assuming g-sync monitors won't support adaptive sync with a 5700xt, otherwise the acer predator x34p would be an option.

Edit: I guess the follow up question to that is whether it's worth getting the g sync monitor anyway or am I missing out a lot by not getting freesync?

Well i guess in that case i think the AOC CU34G2x is probably the best option for you at that price range and VA does have it's advantages in contrast and black level and the one i have is very uniform.

The benq ex3501r is also worth a look slightly over your budget at £579 but it has had decent reviews and is 1800 curve and HDR compatible which can help make the image pop even if it cant go super bright.

If you have a 5700xt then you only need Freesync.

Thanks for the BenQ recommendation - that does look nice and I've managed to grab the B grade one for a decent price :)

Roll on Monday :D
