I will soon be gaming @ 1900x1200.

Games I will be playing are Far-Cry, Fear, Source,HL2 and future FPS`s.

Looking @results of bench marks 7900 GTX 512 sli canes X1900 xtx by nearly 20 fps at this resolution in some games, and is generally the faster option.

I Dont want to spend the extra on overpriced Nvidia.

What is letting crossfire down?
Would the results be different if you crossfired 2 off x1900 xtx with the 3200 xpress chipset and no dongle? If rumours are right about this driver update and you wouldnt need a master card?
 
Yes it appears that with the 3200 xpress chipset you will not need a dongle with the impending driver update and no master card.

ATI crossfire is obviously an earlier devolpment for twin cards but with more & more updates should get to match SLI.
