Friend of mine is either going to buy the Dell 2707WFP or Dell UltraSharp 3007WFP 30". AFAIK the optimum resolution on them is 1900x1200. Am i right in thinking you should play games at the optimum resolutions and if you play at say 1024x768 it will stretch and not look as good - if so will prob suggest a 24" or less to him. He usually plays the lastest games and is going to need a very fast computer to play at those resolutions for future games.

The 2407WFP & 2707WFP are 1920x1200, the 3007WFP is 2560x1600.

At native resolution the games are going to look the best but they still look very nice on a lower resolution with the same aspect ratio. For example with the 2407WFP most games still look great @ 1440x900 with 4x AA.

yeah you're right, but the 3007wfp is much higher res than that, 2560x1600. 24" ones are 1900x1200, next step down form that is 20.1/22" ones at 1680x1050.

Remember you need some serious CPU + GPUs for 1920x1200 or higher as the number of pixels to manipulate is double or higher and that makes a huge difference to FPS as if you disable Vsync it is really obvious on a larger display. Even 8800GTX SLI struggles @ 2560x1600 at times!!!

1280x1024=1310720

1920x1200=2304000

2560x1600=4096000
