High revs before your engine is warm....

All you're doing leaving it idling is increasing the amount of time 'cold' oil is lubricating the engine badly :p

Oil temp being the operative phrase. The temperature that most cars display is the coolant, which takes no time at all to warm up. The oil takes a lot longer.

the oil temp on mine trails the water temp by about 20* (should have added that really)

i recommend that you leave a can of oil in the back of your car tonight. in the morning go out there and try pouring some into a cup. youll see it has the consistency of treacle lol

hence... i went down to 5w for the winter, 10w seemed scarily thick at 0*.

I tend to stick to 4K and below in the mornings for a good 10-15 mins. That way the water temp gauge is up to normal in around ~5mins and the oil will have warmed up nicely by 10 mins. After that, VTEC is fair game

I think the CTR wont let you go into VTEC until its happy with the oil temp, im not sure its either that or it wont let you go into VTEC if the oil is too low
