High Spec without gfx card

Morning all,

wondering if you could help.

I am in need of a new pc and have already sourced a graphics card (X1800XT)

What I am looking for help with is to spec up the rest of the system.

Ideally looking to spend less than £400 incl delivery but willing to go upto £500 at the very most.

I will be recycling the soundcard (audigy plat ex) out of my current baseunit and reusing the monitor and mouse and keyboard.

So for my budget what would be the best combo. Looking to have at least 2Gb ram, external DVD-RW and I am not interested in overclocking at all. Also not bothered about Intel or AMD. Help much appreciated

Do you intend going dual graphics in the future. Do you need raid. Some more details on what the pc is going to be used for and future upgrades you intend, would like to do.

Not interested in running dual gfx or doing anything fancy.

I have a couple of external drives for back up.

Basically I am looking for a gaming pc but not to the extreme.

So really what I am looking for is:

motherboard
CPU
Ram
Harddrive
external DVDRW
Case and PSU

Pretty much it to be honest

MB- Gigabyte DS3 or DS4
CPU- conroe6300
Mem-Geil (all u can afford)
HDD- samsung 7200.10 or of course raptor

DVD ext of yor choice
Case-Sonata II for value for money !
Graphics- Determined by budget but 7900gs, x1900gt, x1900xt 256mb
