Hi guys, booted up my pc tonight, and suddenly the CPU usage even at desktop idle is HUGE. Hovering around the 95% mark, on an i5 2500k with 8GB of RAM in windows 7. Looked in task manager, and svchost was using most of it. Looking around the web, there are no definite solutions as svchost seems to be a generic name for any services that are running. So, I decided to try and isolate what would be the problem by ending the process in task manager, which should normally give a lock up related to the issue, such as instant graphics freeze, audio cutout or anything else obvious. However, it hasn't, and I'm a little worried as to what is causing this issue.

If anyone has any ideas on how to further troubleshoot the problem, help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like possable infection to me. Id try every anti-virus you can get your hands on.

I got a bad virus the other week and i had to do a total reformat of my system because it went through all my .dll's,.exe and other various internet related files on my hard disk within a couple of minutes and injected itself into them and it was impossable to remove them,i got this just by clicking a link in google and it was all over for my windows instalation within a matter of seconds! It was called Ramnit and apparently u cant recover from it.I hope its not a virus you have and just some random bug/glitch.
