High temp on laptop

Hi all, I have a Toshiba Laptop, a A300D -13X. My GF, the primary user says it gets hot easily so I thought I would check out the CPU temp and both cores are at over 80 degrees. Is this something to worry about on the AMD chip. If so I will take it back to the shop.

The CPU is an AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile TL-60.

Can you take the bottom off and clean the heatsink?

It's bound to be very noisey if it is indeed running at 80c.

I'd rather not as it is under warranty still and I don't want any chance of voiding it. It isn't all that noisy TBH, just really hot on the base.

The bottom of laptops tend to get pretty anyway, and it should shut itself down if the CPU starts overheating.

But 80c still sounds way too high for general use.

Mobile cpu's tend to have a higher thermal threshold, looking here your cpu has a max temp of 95c - Clicky, my Intel laptop gets very hot as well.

Does the fan come on.

OK I have just blown out by the exhaust port and covered myself with dust. I think I will get a can of compressed air and see how it goes. If it gets worse I will get the retailer to do it under warranty.

Get some compressed air or blow very hard into the air vent wherever it is located this can often clear the build up of dust that has accumilated.

My 3 year old Core Duo T2300 laptop reaches the high 70s under load when ambient temperatures are high. It also throttles down to 980MHz (full speed is 1.67GHz) which screws up any game. :(
