High temps in HWMonitor

Dear All,

After one of the keen eyed members noticed my CPU temp was a bit high on a previous post, I have replaced the defective CPU fan with an Artic i30 which appears to be doing the job on the CPU against what was previously showing (using HWMonitor) down from 46C to mid 30's on idle).

On the advice on the same post, I've undertaken the task to overclock the CPU using the MB (Gigabyte) ET6 utility, gradually, I'm now up to 3.8, but I ran a Torture Test using Prime95 and whilst the CPU Core Temp's stayed fairly ok, with a Max of around 56C, the TMPIN0 and 1 registered a max of 107C and 115 respectively.

I've done a fair bit of reading on line and whilst some say it's probably a faulty reading/sensor, others are leading to it being an issue, is there any concise definition someone could share? I've read the excellent guide on here, which led me down the route, just worried about those readings.

I'm a little worried I may well be doing some damage.

Hardware is:

Intel Core i5 2500K
Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. Z68XP-UD3P (Socket 1155)
8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 798MHz (11-11-11-28) - Which I will be u8grading in the coming weeks
1024MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti (Gigabyte)

Voltages are: CPU 1.080 and DRAM 1.500 according to ET6

Max for the utility is 4.10GHZ which I'm happy to be the max, however, just want to be sure I've not going to fry anything.

ET6 is garbage.

Do your clocking via the BIOS, you should be able to 4Ghz on stock volts with maybe increasing the LLC to say 3-4 (think it goes from 0 - 5 with 0 being the lowest setting)

Best way to tell imo if it's just a faulty sensor or not,is stick your hand in your pc and see if you can feel any hot spots......watch your hands though :p i always seem to manage to nick a fan blade and crap mesel :D
If something is indeed at that temp you will soon feel it,sounds like it could be around the cpu socket.
 
Well, I have managed to feel for hotspots and all fans and fingers are intact (just) and all seems well.

School boy error though, on fitting the new CPU fan, I've disrupted the airflow, so it would seem the CPU and Rear fans are working against each other.

Rear case fan is expelling, top case is expelling, CPU fan is blowing inwards across the ram and the side case fan is blowing inwards.

So, from what I can see a reverse of the rear case fan should do the trick. I guess that's right?

Once corrected I will certainly clock through the bios on your advice, on reflection, some strange things have happened since using ET6.
 
Rather than reversing the case fan,is it not possible to move the cpu cooler fan so it's blowing towards the rear of the case?

This would be your best airflow imo, ideally you want the airflow coming from front to back/top of your case ;)

What case and cpu cooler are you using mate?

I used the last of my thermal paste fitting the new fan yesterday, which is an Artic i30. The case in an Antec gaming case, I 'think' it's a 300 (was purchased a few years ago from OC as a pre-built)...

I guess I can leave it for the time being, order some new paste from Artic and swap it round later in the week..

I have read the read the sticky on over clocking (and most other things I can find on my board) and whilst it seems very good and informative, I still can't get my head round it, especially the bit about intel K chips.

From what you have stated do I just have to change the LLC? Or with my extreme limited knowledge, which is evident, should I just stick to the fact that I've reseated the fan and all seems well and leave it at that? :O)

Heya. I've used information in this thread.

Worked brilliantly for me as I was new to overclocking as well. 2500k sits at 4.2Ghz with default volts (will probably try a bit higher once a new heatsink arrives). See if that is any help. I did find that my Gigabyte z68AP-d3 board had a few less of the settings, but after printing the info and just slowly comparing everything worked really well :)
