for some reason the temps in my system dont seem right and also software tells me different temps

System Specs:
  • i7 3770k @3.5GHz
  • 16GB RAM
  • ASUS Sabertooth Z77
  • MSI GTX 670 OC Power Edition
  • Corsair 650D Case

Below temps are while rendering a video in Sony Vegas 11

Piriform & Real Temp tells me 60C while Asus Monitor tools tells me 41C

which seems right?

also while on idle its the same thing..

Asus tells me around 30C while the other 2 say around 40C

I would trust Real Temp and Piriform software, Asus could be reading the Integrated Heatspreader temp rather than the actual core temps.

Been doing a lot of reading recently and am new here but this is what I think I have found out. Hopefully someone in the know can confirm or tell me its BS!

The software bundled with the mobo ( I have an Asus ) normally reads the Tcase temp. This is not the core temps but the temp of the outer case of the cpu. From what I have read, in my case on an i5 2500k the max Tcase is 72.6 degrees.
The actual core temp is usually higher than the Tcase temp as shown by your real temp software. The Tjmax on my cpu is 98 degrees.

I have used core temp and it shows the actual core temperatures.

Im hoping thats right.

The TJmax is the max operating temp as specified by intel and is the max core temp.

As long as you are within the Tcase and Tjmax, you should be ok. Flamesuit on.....

oh, and btw, temps look OK I think. Im only using a stock cooler and core temps at idle are 30 degrees and Asus is telling me the cpu case is at 29 degrees.
