Hi everybody, i have read through some of the forums and hope i can get some usefull advice.
I have a Compaq Presario cq60-420sa.
After some research i have found it has:
winstron 303c motherboard
phoenix bios
nvidia nforce mcp78s chipset
nvidia 8200m g graphics card
amd athlon dual-core ql65 processor

I want to change the setting on the graphics card as they are on the lowest setting according to what can be changed
gpu graphics clock 400Mhz
gpu memory clock 675Mhz
gpu processor clock 800Mhz

My problem is the temps when gaming(in deg c), at the present moment the readings are mcp51, gpu=51, cpu=54, all that is open is this forum.
when i play online i get all three up into the 80(usually 83) and this is with a cooling pad, without it they were 88. The laptop has been repaired under warrenty because the temps were around 95.
The temps are taken from nvidia system monitor but were the same with a couple of other programs aswell, and i cannot get the temps from the bios.

Is there a way to lower these temps or are they ok. i have heard artic silver mentioned and wonder if it is worth going down this route to see if it works.

any advice will be very helpfull

Regards
Chris

I would guess its still under warrenty so if you open it to use a better thermal paste you will invalidate that.

At a guess it would make a difference (use artic cooling mx2/3/4 or chillfactor 3/ic diamond instead of artic silver as as5 is elecrtically conductive and the others arent and perform better as well) as I would guess labtop makes just use tims or cheap gook just to make it all work.

Hi, thanks for the reply.
Its out of warrenty now, the repairs carried out were just before the warrenty period expired but i dont want to send it back as they had it for two weeks and didnt make that much difference, getting the temp just below 90 i feel is still to hot.
I have done a search and it does seem artic cooling mx3 is better than artic silver (just as you said) so i think this is going to have to be the root to take.

sorry to ask another question, my laptop has a amd athlon dual core ql-65 2.10Ghz processor, Nvidia monitor picks up it a dual core but says for each core:
ht bus 200Mhz, cpu multiplier x14.5 which gives a cpu frequency of 2900Mhz.
If i am correct is this 2.90Ghz and if so how can it have changed, i have not done any changes because of the temps.
So my question is what programs of drivers etc can change a processor speed and should i put the multiplier to x10.5 to get 2.10Ghz to see if this cools things down a little?

Use CPUZ to check your CPU speed. It probably is best to open it up, who knows how much dust is blocking the airflow
