I am running

Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4670 Ultimate Passive
I5 2500 with intel stock cooler
asus p8h67-m pro optimal settings with only change being achi rather then ide and running latest 1003 bios.
silverstone grandia gd01b-mxr case which has two 80m fans at the rear and there is also two 92m fans at the front.

the cpu temps at idle are 60c in hwmonitor, I reseated the heatsink and replaced the paste with mx2 no difference any ideas what the problem might be?

Have the temperatures been lower in the past?
I would check to make sure all the fans are working, and maybe check/clean any dust build up inside the case. Also install realtemp to confirm the results of hwmonitor.

It will if it's not making good contact with the processor. When removed is it showing good contact with the CPU

Suggest u manually set your core voltage

Is that the latest bios for your board?

Good point, have you checked, double checked, and triple checked that all 4 pins are firmly secured? Slipped my mind that several people have had terrible temperatures because they didn't properly engage the clips.

cpu is not overclocked I even disabled turbo mode in cpu-z volt goes no higher then 1.2.

I checked temps in realtemp they are the same as hwmonitor.

I am running latest bios 1003 for my asus board.

I checked all connectors are firmly in with all fans spinning and reseated cooler again idle temps for each core shows 59 57 60 57 also I moved graphics card to the bottom pci-e on the board hoping it would open it up a bit which it dropped the graphics by 4c.

Either your heat sink has machined terribly and needs lapping or u have left the plastic on the bottom of it

I would expect ur CPU to be idling at around 35

In a tower case maybe but remember this is a htpc case.

my bad

I really dont think that case is giving enpugh air flow.

take the top off your case see what temps you get then to rule out it being a problem with your cooler

options are to sell off your current processor and get one of the low voltage sandys a i5 2500T when they come available or just get a better case
