Im trying to source a router that has good throughtput, gigabit ports, QOS but no wireless.

They all have wireless built in.

Anything around? 2nd hand on ebay, ex business equipment etc.

I dont really have a budget tbh. Anything goes :)

Are the ASUS routers really that good? It'll be linked to a BTO HG612

The ERLite-3 looks like a good bit of kit for £90.

Anyone have any first hand experience with them?

I run a ER PoE at home, which I use with my FTTC connection and its very impressive bit of kit for the money. I binned off my ASA and replaced it with the ER.

Yes, I have one. No problems with it, essentially it's(EdgeOS/Vyatta/VyOS) a Debian based router OS - you can install packages just like a Linux distro. The routing speed of the Lite is down to hardware offload for packet handling - the hardware offload works for LAN connections and more recently PPPoE connections, but if you bridge network ports to form a switch you lose the hardware acceleration on those ports(AFAIK).

Check out the community forum it's pretty decent - http://community.ubnt.com/t5/EdgeMAX/bd-p/EdgeMAX

Easy enough to set up with the GUI?

Here is a setup screen(didn't have this luxury when I bought mine :( ) -

So basically you end up using one port for the WAN another for the LAN, and another spare.

I have 1Gigabit FTTH being installed soon.

I just picked up an EdgeRouter Lite based on this thread and subsequent reviews I found online. Near to wirespeed routing, even if it sucks it only cost me £70! It will be repalcing my pfSense router which is running on an ancient IBM desktop :D

I was interested in the Edgerouter 8 port, but that's £240ish - Could not find any reviews of real world throughput on it so was not willing to dump 3x the money on it.

I'm using a cisco 1921 router with bt infinity 2 via an ECI openreach modem. Best thing I've ever done, it's more than happy to run with my line speed of 75/18mbps (supposedly capable of over 800mbps with minimal ip services) and so far, hasn't needed touching since i fitted/configured it in november. Once configured properly, I've not found anything that doesn't work. Best bit was that it cost sub £200. (admittedly not as cheap as the edge router, but a well proven solution)

The rest of the network dangles off an hp 1910, a netgear GS108 and the wireless off a dlink dap-2695 access point.
