High Throughput Router for FTTC

My EdgeRouter Lite arrived today. Very easy to setup if you have some prior experience of networking/configuring a linux based router/firewall appliance.

The only one thing I am missing so far is per IP/Client bandwidth monitoring. I think that SHOULD be supported out of the box. The only solutions I can find so far are installing netflow but it's all...very complicated.

Don't be afraid to try the community forums if you get stuck they're normally helpful and the Ubiquiti staff used to chip in regularly back when I frequented them.

After lots of searching etc i settled on a Draytek 2860 (Non Wifi) and a Draytek AP-900 :D

Both will run of a HG612 OR Modem

I chose the 2860 because it has WAN and VDSL built in. Ill probably use the internal VDSL on my 2nd line so i can load balance 2 connections :)

Yeah I am going to have to sit down and spend some proper time working it out.

Already spent some time configuring OpenVPn via CLI and fixing all it's problems :D

I'm using a cisco 1921 router with bt infinity 2 via an ECI openreach modem. Best thing I've ever done, it's more than happy to run with my line speed of 75/18mbps (supposedly capable of over 800mbps with minimal ip services) and so far, hasn't needed touching since i fitted/configured it in november. Once configured properly, I've not found anything that doesn't work. Best bit was that it cost sub £200. (admittedly not as cheap as the edge router, but a well proven solution)

The rest of the network dangles off an hp 1910, a netgear GS108 and the wireless off a dlink dap-2695 access point.

I'm also using the same 1921 plus OR modem until I can afford a VDSL HWIC. Runs flawless and rock solid.

Im trying to source a router that has good throughtput, gigabit ports, QOS but no wireless.

They all have wireless built in.

Anything around? 2nd hand on ebay, ex business equipment etc.

Hi, just installed a Billion 7800n which l was given very easy to set up, performs better than the Sky Hub fibre connection and been rock solid since installation 2 weeks ago.

Using a HG612 modem which l'v yet to hack.
