The king of the north!
Hey everyone.

I am in the market for a monitor at the moment for my single player/none competitive games. ( i have a XB2 240hz display for anything i need mega speed for )

However the image quality leaves something to be desired.

I am using an RTX 2080 super so have plenty of oomph for high res/4k ect.

I would absolutely love to try 1000nit hdr as it's one of the only things i haven't personally tried/tested myself so would love to have a see so i can make my own opinion up of it. 4K would be nice to have mixed in with that with a nice picture quality panel (ips or whatever has replaced IPS as colour king)

Any recommendations? Price not considered at the moment, will look at anything.

HDR performance leaves you in a very sticky situation.

LG C9 OLED
PG35VQ
X35

best HDR performance would easily fall to the OLEd despite it not hitting 1000 nits because of the infinite contrast ratio and pixel level black control. however its not a monitor strictly and can only do 1440p/120hz until next graphics card refresh.
the other two are fals, inferior PQ wise but are monitors with awesome refresh rates.

pick ur poison. The other two are UW, the C9 is 4k.
I personally don't see an IPS panel ever doing HDR well because of the **** poor blacks. Everything is just going to look washed out.

Honestly wanting true HDR is very expensive. If you just want crap inaccurate wishy washy HDR, get anything with HDR1000 on the box.

hey pal thank you for the response. I just came in here to bump the thread as didn't see a notification for a response :(

I have been doing some more research but my brain is just some what boggled with it.

I am currently looking at this monitor

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £811.69 (includes shipping: £11.70)

No HDR and low ref rate. But again this isn't going to be used for competitive games it will be used for single player/relaxed games ( basically anything i use a controller for )

From what i have seen the above monitor has great image quality but slightly washed out blacks. Not sure how that will effect dark games especially those with RTX such as metro.

Will keep looking and researching before i put any money down of course.

Do you need it soon? I ask because that Acer is quite an old model now, and the newer 32" 4k/120hz screens are on the horizon...

I don't need it soon but would ideally like to have one before Christmas. When are they due?

also 32" isn't a must have for me, 27" would be fine too :).

Go for the Acer Predator X27
It's the best monitor I've ever used, once you've fiddled with the HDR settings I was blown away gears 5 is an excellent example of it so is far cry new dawn, forza horizon 4, Ghost recon breakpoint.

It's expensive yes but an experience like no other.

Oh well I didn't need both my kidneys....

Yeah that may be a little bit too much of a jump in budget.

I appreciate and understand how amazing that monitor is but i also don't neccessarily understand having 4k 144hz at this moment in time. having all of the other specs but not 144hz and price adjusted accordingly would be the monitor i would buy. I just don't seem to be able to find one.

The reason i don't understand the 144hz on 4k is i don't know any game i could run maxed out at 4k and get close to that ref rate with my 2080super

I understand that it's expensive.
Gears 5 multiplayer I'm getting 120fps and forza horizon above 100. 2080ti pushing it.
Just thought id share my experience.

I might have to see if i can get a viewing of one. No chance i would fork out without testing it first.

I will keep looking at options and will keep this one in mind for sure.

Hdr400 is awful and hardly hdr.

What’s your budget?
You don’t care about high refresh rates, you don’t want ultrawide but you want hdr and best image quality.

For all intents and purposes mate, you basically want a tv . Just get a second hand oled or a lg b8 for cheap.

Yes. Let's get a 55" TV for my desk that I sit right next too. I mean I have done it before with a 55" bravia. I don't think needing to turn your head to see the corners of the screen is a great experience :)

I did it with an LG C9 55'' as a trial and custom resolutioned 3840x1400 and it was fine but sure.

I mean i just don't see any PC gaming perks that you're taking advantage of to actually go through with a monitor purchase. Monitors are really a huge rip off compared to TVs as it is.
