Hi, sorry if this has already been posted!

My dad is looking for a new CPU as he is getting a new motherboard. He's using water cooling at the moment and is undecided between the e8400 or the q6600 as these are a similar price. Would the higher clock speed or more cores be better?. He dosnt play games but does the occasional video editing and likes a snappy desktop

Many thanks in advance
Ryan

As long as he works with video software that makes use of 4 cores, the Q6600 would be the better option. Only consider a high Mhz dual core if you're really into your gaming.

If he wants a snappy desktop tell him to get an SSD :)

This question depends on usage. In your dad's case, he doesn't play many games, which is the main usage case for the high-speed dual, and he does video editing, so he'll find the quad really beneficial. As for desktop snappiness, I doubt he'll have a problem with any of the Core2 CPUs, especially if he has enough RAM and a decent hard drive. Point him towards the quad.
