I'm sure there must be a few Linux experts on here so has anyone done any higher end Linux courses e.g. geared towards performance tuning/optimization? + Would you reccomend it?

I've done RHCSA, RHCE but looking to get a better understanding of optimizing systems. I'm already farmiliar with things like building custom kernels, ripping out all the crud you dont need, patching etc. I know there is a lot more which can be done but I lack some of the deeper knowledge of how things work as I didn't do computer science at uni. e.g. I've just watched some videos about NUMA optimization + manually allocating workloads to nodes.

Thanks

Presumably you've seen the RedHat architect level course/exam (RH/EX442) which would seem a good fit and have the benefit of recertifying your RHCE?

I've just briefly looked at the 400 level courses to see what was out there as an option for recertifying my RHCE by summer 2014 - between the performance tuning and deployment/management ones for me I think. No experience of the courses either I'm afraid but would be interested to hear about them too, as I'd need to decide between doing the course as well or just turning up for the exam. I just did the exams for RHCSA and RHCE without too much trouble, but there aren't the 3rd party study guides for the architect level courses.

I would agree with the more advanced RHEL courses (RH4xx) if you have done your RHCE already. Personally I was supposed to do the clustering course (RH437) this year (but management screwed up the internal paperwork to fund it :() and I'd also like to do RHS334 as I think it would be useful. Annoyingly my previous management were all for us going full RHCA but the current lot are fundamentally useless at getting anything done for us to do the courses :(

I do know someone who has done the RH443 which the OP would probably be looking at and he really enjoyed the course (although not the exam that much :))

Hey Andrew, hows it going? You think having these certs help your prospects much?

Yeah, I'm good thanks :), yourself? Not sure about the employment prospects with or without the Red Hat certs, still in the same job from when I did them! Can't say I notice them being explicitly asked for much in job specs that I see occasionally though. They're probably expected qualifications for someone with 5 years+ Linux sysadmin experience if you use RHEL/CentOS and to be honest aside from a bit of revision on stuff I don't do day-to-day like Samba and LDAP the exam was straightforward, though a good practical test.
