Quick question.. I was wondering if there's any real point in buying 3600MHz over 3000MHz, not the the cost is anything as there's little between them.

Will the higher frequency be a problem for the Z170A chipset?

I wonder how much of the speed increase is lost due to having to increase the timings?

I would suspect none, most of the timings are cycle based (e.g. CAS) so increasing the frequency compensates for increasing the timings. I.E. there might be more cycles but the cycles happen quicker.

3600 compared to 3000 DDR4 makes about as much difference as going from 1333 to 2133 DDR3... which is basically absolutely no real world difference.
RAM speeds are just marketing, you really see no tangible benefit outside of sythentic benchmark programs :(

So what's a good set of timings and RAM speeds for a gaming rig? I've been asked to spec up 2 gaming PCs, I was looking at i5-6600k with an Asus Z170 Pro Gaming board?

Cheers

depends on the use of the system?

just day to day/gaming. No just buy supper cheap stuff.
Benching all day then again NO lol lower times would be better than faster ram if it's only faster by a little like in this case.
