Higher temps with new bios...?

I am currently running a Q6600 at 3.0Ghz on a Gigabyte P35-DS4.

I was using bios version 7 until this morning, when I flashed it to version 14. When I booted into Windows, I found that my core temps are now 5-6°C higher, both at idle and under load. Can anyone explain why this is happening? Seems a bit strange.

Idle used to be 36-37°C; now 41-42°C. Load used to be 45-50°C; now 50-55°C. Are these good temps for 3.0Ghz, or should I try to get them down a bit?

I am running the F14c bios with no probs with a E6300@ 3.0Ghz
when you updated the bios did you go back into it a picked Load Default setting
or something like that?

You could try turning off the AUTO fan in the bios as well
or the other option is to go back to F13

Yep, the instructions said to "load optimized defaults", and that's what I did.

Having done that, I let it boot into Windows, then restarted and re-entered bios to clock the cpu back up to 3.0Ghz again. I will switch off the auto fan option in case that makes a difference (there's only one fan connected directly to the motherboard, so I doubt that it will, but anything's worth a try).

Do those temps sound OK?

Has it changed the volts on the CPU? some Q6600 are 1.3 and the older ones are 1.2
other then that I have not got a clue.

Try going back to F13 and see what happens mate.
Dont use the windows bios updater its crap.
I use a usb stick and do it from the bios screen.

Will check the voltages in case they've been changed; I know that my Q6600 takes 1.3 as stock voltage. I didn't use Windows to flash the bios; I used Q-Flash and uploaded from a usb stick. Might roll back to version 13 if I still get no joy.

Thanks for the advice.
